You need to remove all your makeup before you go to sleep, so that your skin can breathe and repair itself. In this video, dermatologist Rosemarie Ingleton, MD, explains how acne can result if you don't remove your makeup before bed.
Well at night is when your skin needs to do it's repair, so you need to remove everything that's been in your face through out the day, and just think of it, your makeup has been a magnet for dirt, and pollution throughout the day, so you don't want to go to bed with that, you want to remove every trace of what's been on your face before you go to bed.
If you don't take your makeup off, you are going to run to problems like acne, which is the most common thing I encounter in my practice, the acne is coming because your skin is being blocked by the makeup, no repair, no breathing really for the skin, so you want to take all that stuff off or you'd be at my office.
Rosemarie Ingleton, MD, is an assistant clinical professor of dermatology at Mount Sinai Hospital and a clinical instructor of dermatology at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
