What Tests Are Commonly Used to Diagnose Autism?

There is definitive test of the diagnosis of autism. Autism is an observational diagnosis based upon what you've seen in the child and seen how he performs, is based upon interviewing parents and care providers and teachers. It's based upon taking that information and coming up with the diagnosis.

There are scales, there are surveys that can help you with the diagnosis. The most common one, the one with the gold standard is called the ADOS. The ADOS is the Autism Diagnostic Observation Scale that can help you lead you to diagnosis of autism, but once again, it is as good the person doing the test, it's cause the person doing the observation so they can use that scale, categorize their observations and that can yield to diagnosis of autism.
