Strawberries: A Healthy Dessert

Hi, Dr. Miller here with a good tip for those times when you overindulge a bit. Next time you load your plate with mac and cheese, eat the whole thing, here's what you should do. Have a bowl of strawberries for dessert. High calorie fatty meals cause artery damaging blood paths to spike temporarily, but in one study people who followed a high fat meal with the test beverage of pureed strawberries had a much smaller hike.

The strawberry concoction seem to minimize, oxidizde LDL cholesterol, a dangerous unstable kind of cholesterol that likes to chew up the lining of peoples' arteries. In the study just 2/3 of a cup of strawberries reduced oxidized LDL spike by 115%. Researchers think that the polyphenols in the strawberries were responsible for dampening the the oxidized LDS spike that normally happens after a big heavy meal.
