If I Cannot Eat Dairy Foods, How Can I Get Enough Calcium?

Read Transcript

That's a really good question and a very commonly asked one because most of us think dairy milk. Well the bottom line is we need to look at calcium balance not just calcium in. Cup of milk has about 250mg of calcium, cup of spinach has about 225, but the dairy is so acidic, it actually creates a condition where our bodies have to buffer calcium out of our bones to create alkalinity, so at the end of the day, you're net negative and your skeleton is weaker.

So bottom line, go with the veggies. All of the leafy greens are great calcium choices, and spinach, kale, mustard greens, Swiss chards, the more variety the better. Choose what's local for you, and choose a variety.
