How Can Sleep Affect Hormones?

Read Transcript

Most people have no idea that their sleep is one of the best fat burning and hormone optimizing activities that you can do. Your environment for sleeping as well as your sleep hygiene are essential to optimize your hormones and your fat burning when you're sleeping. Your environment for sleeping needs to be cool and dark.

You should go to bed at the same time every night, definitely before eleven o'clock and try and sleep at least seven and a half hours. And when you're sleeping you should sleep naked because your body should cool down when you sleep. When this happens you get the release of melatonin and growth hormone and these hormones actually boost your metabolism and make a massive fat burning activity.

But if you eat too close to bedtime, or you wear tight fitting clothing, or you have your bedroom too hot or too heavy blankets, it's going to disrupt the benefits of sleep.
