You have options when it comes to strength training. In this video, Mike Clark, DPT, explains the difference between split routine and total body resistance-training workouts. Which is best depends on your fitness goals.
Hi, I'm Dr. Clark. If you've started a workout routine that's great news, but have you thought about your goals? It's important to design your workouts depending on the result you want to achieve. There's total body training which targets all areas. Total body training can help you develop functional strength and burn more calories.
It's also a more time efficient way to train, because you'll often perform one exercise after another without rest. You can also do a split routine workout. This is good if your goal is to build more muscle mass. In this type of workout, you'll exercise the same body part twice a week. This increases the overall isolated demand on that individual muscle which in turn increases muscle size and definition, they're both great workouts and which one is best for you depends on your personal goals.
