If you suffer from chronic pain, it's time to go green for pain relief! In this Health Smarts video, Mike Clark DPT, reveals how vitamin K in dark leafy greens like spinach may help relieve pain from osteoarthritis.
Hi, I'm Dr. Clark. Leafy green veggies like spinach or arugula salad provide a healthy jolt of vitamin K. A nutrient with potential pain soothing properties according to some research. Vitamin K also helps maintain strong bones and healthy joints. In one study older adults with ample blood levels of Vitamin K were less likely to develop osteoarthritis compared to a controled group.
You can get all the K you need from dark leafy greens. A couple of raw spinach has 145 micro grams which is 132% of what you need for the day, but be careful. Vitamin K also helps with blood clotting, so if you're taking blood thinners check with your doctor before boosting your vitamin K intake. Make sure to work in leafy greens everyday and you'll keep the pain at bay.
