Watch as Dr. Michael Breus discusses how sleep apnea could contribute to weight gain.
Hi, I'm Dr. Michael Bruce, the sleep doctor. It's a very interesting relationship between Sleep Apnea and weight gain. Number one we know that as somebody is not diagnosed with Sleep Apnea, they're getting sleep deprived. The more sleep deprived somebody is, the lower their metabolism is, the higher their cortisol level level is, which means appetite is high, and their worst food choice so when they are sleep deprived from Sleep Apnea, in fact it's causing all the problems that are associated with weight gain.
Interestingly enough, once somebody gets treated for Sleep Apnea, either with Sleep Apnea machine, an oral appliance, or some type of side directed surgical intervention, we often times see as a side effect of that weight loss. What could be better than that?.
