Are There Any Home Remedies for Snoring?

Read Transcript

Hi, I'm Doctor Michael Briz, the sleep doctor. There are a couple of home remedies for snoring that I want people to take into consideration. Number one, if you find you got a snoring bed partner, ask them to rotate to their side. There'll be far less likely to snore on their side than they will be on their back.

Number two, create a pillow wedge, where they have pillows underneath their backs to raise their head up, that too can help with snoring. Number three, try a decongestant. We all know snoring is worse the more congested you are. So in fact, using a decongestant or even a nasal saline wash can be very helpful in reducing snoring.

Number four, weight loss. We all know that the more weight you lose, the less likely you are to snore. And finally, one of the things I oftentimes tell people is avoid alcohol at night. We know that alcohol is a muscle relaxant and will cause you to snore even more. Remember, everything you do, you do better with a good night's sleep.
