How Are Fats and Oils Included in the DASH Diet?

With the DASH diet, we're trying not to over do the fats but when you do have fats, you want them to be the heart healthy fats, like Extra Virgin olive oil, that's a great choice and even things like avocados, the nuts we talked about, those are great sources of mono and saturated fats and the salmon that we just talked about that's also a great choice.

It's got the omega 3 fats which are very heart healthy. So we're trying to emphasize the heart healthy fats and going easy on the saturated fats that cause your cholesterol to go up, and also are implicated in causing you to be at a higher risk for developing diabetes..
