How Can I Prevent My Child from Getting Measles?

Read Transcript

The best way to prevent your child from getting measles is to get them immunized at the scheduled time that's recommended, so 15 to 18 months is the first MMR, measles, mumps, rubella vaccine, and then between four and six years old, they get the second MMR. The second MMR is actually not a booster, it's given because only about 90% of people become immune with that first vaccine, and so we recommend a second one just to be sure we get those kids who didn't get immunity from the first one.

The second vaccine was only recommended a few years ago, so if you're an adult, and only got one vaccine as a child or you're not sure how many vaccines you got, it's probably best to go and get vaccinated again just to be sure you're immune.
