What Health Problems Are Caused by Nightmares?

So when people struggle with nightmares there is a lot of sleep loss associated with it. When you wake from a nightmare, you're in a state of panic and your body is kind of going into fighter flight mode, your heart rate's elevated, your blood pressure is elevated, and it's really difficult to return to sleep in that state.

So because of that, people with nightmares have this prolonged night time wakening, these extended time of awake during sleep and that sleep loss results in a lot of health problems. It can put you at risk for cancer, obesity and make it difficult to focus during the day, it can cause irritability, there is an increase in appetite that typically goes along with sleep loss, and so there is a whole host of health problems that go along with the sleep loss resulting from nightmares.
