What Issues Should I Consider When Choosing an OB/GYN?

I think it's really important to think about why you're going to see the doctor in the first place. Too many women choose a gynecologist based on the gynecologist-as-girlfriend thing, this is someone who I'd like to talk to, who I would chat with, who I feel comfortable with, and think about it, if you you had cancer you wouldn't say, which cancer specialist would I most like to go out to dinner with? You're going to find the person who is the most expert in the area that's of most concern to you.

So when you're picking a gynecologist, think about where you are in your life, are you thinking about having a baby? May be you're going to need surgery, may be you have menopausal issues. So you want to target look at someone who is really expert in that area. I find sometimes it's best to start with your hospital referral service because they're going to help you find someone who really truly knows the most about the issues that are important to you.

At the end of the day yeah, you want to be able to talk to your gynecologist, you want them to be able to talk to you, it's nice to be able to communicate and relate, but you're not going to be picking a friend, you've got plenty of friends. That's not how you pick a doctor.
