To "d" or not to "d" -- that is the question that obstetrician and gynecologist Dr. Lauren Streicher answers in this video in which she explains why douching can be dangerous.
Douching actually isn't safe, first of all, just the act of douching can be problematic if somebody has very thin irritated tissues, and they put their douche nozzle in their vagina. I have seen women with pretty serious cuts and bleeding as a result of the act, but their side, women who douche on a regular basis alter the pH of the vagina, which makes them more prone to infections, everyday infections like bacterial vaginosis and yeast infection, but then more serious level, it's well know that women who douche are at increased risk of pelvic inflammatory disease, which can be a very serious problem, leading to infertility and other issues.
Lauren Streicher, MD is assistant clinical professor of obstetrics and gynecology at Northwestern University in Chicago. Dr. Streicher is a diplomat of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
