If you have fibroids and want to get pregnant, it's important to know that they can interfere, says John Lipman, MD, interventional radiologist. In this video, he explains that fibroids effect on fertility depends on their location.
Well you need to know that the Fibroids can interfere. In general as we talked about earlier, the location of Fibroids, the ones that are along the lining, the sub-mucusal Fibroids, those tend to be the ones that can interfere with being able to get pregnant and keep a pregnancy.
The ones that are on the outer part of the uterus, the subserosal ones in general are not involved with fertility in anyway. The intramural ones, the ones that lie in between depending on how big they are and how close they come to the lining could potentially interfere with fertility but it's mainly those central ones, the sub-mucusal fibroid.
John Lipman, MD, is an internationally recognized expert in the treatment of uterine fibroids. He has given over 200 lectures on Women's Health topics at Harvard, Stanford, Vanderbilt and Yale Medical Centers.
