How Does Weight Gain Affect Polycystic Ovary Syndrome?
Weight gain increases the amount of insulin in the body, which can make the symptoms of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) worse and increase risk for other conditions. Watch OB/GYN specialist Jessica Shepherd, MD, discuss how weight gain impacts PCOS.

So with weight gain and affecting PCOS,
you'll find that patients who are obese with PCOS have an increase in insulin in their system. With that increase in insulin, the target organs in the body
aren't able to process the insulin. And high levels of sugar are, therefore, increased in these patients.
And so with the high sugar, again, you have that high risk of diabetes, heart disease, and endometrial cancer.
