How Long Do the Effects of Lip Plumpers and Injecting Fillers Last?

Read Transcript

Fillers last anywhere from six months to two years depending on the filler, the area of the face it's being placed and the patient. If you're using a hyaluronic acid filler like Restylane, Perlane and Juvederm in the lips, you can expect the results to last for about year. If you have very expressive lips or a high metabolism, then it may last a little shorter period of time.

In terms of other areas of the face where you're lifting like the cheeks, or the temple or the jaw line, whether you're using hyaluronic acids or Radius, which is calcium hydroxylapatite, most people find the results last about a year once you get to your optimal. The nice thing about these fillers is that you can build gradually.

Since they are long lasting, patients can either have their full results all at once by getting multiple syringes in the one visit or they can return to the office, at 3-6 months intervals to gradually build on what was done before, since it's not gone. The tissue simulating fillers sculpture, or polylactic acid lasts about two years once patients get to their optimal.

That takes longer to see the results about four weeks after each treatment, and most patients need two or three treatments to see their optimal results. Those patients who often come in at a year to just touch up the area, but if they let it go, it would probably last about two years, one caveat is, if you lose weight or have an illness or any other stresser, you may find that you need more fillers faster if you're aging faster or losing volume.
