What Do the Dates on Food Labels Mean?

Read Transcript

There are different types of dates on foods labels to indicate freshness. One is the sell by date and that's really for the retailer to know when to stop displaying the product, and then there's the use by date and use by indicates the peak quality of the product. And then best by, which is similar indicates the best flavor of the product.

But none of these dates indicate when your food will actually spoil. No matter how the product is dated, whether it's sell by, use by or best by, you always want to make sure that you have purchased the product before that date.
