Watch as Dr. Ellen Rome provides some strategies on what a teen can do if they are feeling very depressed.
Depression is a challenge that happens to many teens and it can be life threatening if you're feeling significantly depressed enough to wish you didn't exist or want to hurt or free yourself that's a time to seek health urgently, that means telling parents, telling a trusted teacher, telling your pediatrician for sure or your healthcare provider and making sure you're accessing enough resources to learn some coping skills to help make it better and none of these are quick fixes but it's worthwhile asking or else she won't get the help.
Ellen Rome, MD is Head of the Section of Adolescent Medicine at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. She is a board certified pediatrician and an expert in the field of eating disorders and obesity.
