Laser hair removal works by targeting pigment at the base of the hair follicle below the skin; the hair dissolves and doesn't grow back. Watch dermatologist Doris Day, MD, explain how many treatments you need and which areas of the body are best.
Laser hair removal works by targeting pigment at the base of the follicle and that's deep really under the skin. It travels right though the skin, heats up pigment at the of the follicle that hair dissolves and just doesn't grow back. Most people depending on the area will meet anywhere from four to eight heat treatments and maybe a touch up every few years or so.
They're FDA approved as permanent removal, but the FDA defines permanent as two years. In my experience of doing this for 10 years, I can tell you it's a lot longer than two years that the results last, and some body areas like the lower legs, the bikini and the underarms lasts pretty much forever.
