How Are Hives Treated?

Read Transcript

Hives are best treated with antihistamines. So, we know that hives are caused by too much histamine release so those anti histamines will block the release of those histamines, and prevent the red spots from coming out. They're not actually tweeting the hives in that they aren't curing the underlying cause but they're suppressing them from coming out so typically it takes about six weeks for the hives to wear off for most people or less.

Six weeks or less. You've to take those antihistamines on a regular basis for at least two weeks and then you can sort of ween yourself off and if the hives occur and if they do then you have to add the antihistamines back. After six weeks, your doctor will most likely start to do some investigation in terms of what might be causing this reaction in your immune system.
