Are There Alternative Treatments for Muscle Cramps?

Read Transcript

I actually learned this tip from the trainer at my daughter's high school. Trainers have been recommending pickle juice for muscle cramps and the treatment of muscle cramps in athletes for years, and we didn't really know what it was about pickle juice, we thought that it was the minerals and the salt, but it turns out that it's probably the vinegar that's in the pickle juice that works.

This has actually been studied in two very small laboratories studies using college male athletes where they reproduced the muscle fatigue and then reproduce the cramps that come after it. And it takes 85 seconds for a two and a half ounces of pickle juice to resolve the cramp which was much faster than just drinking water or sports drink.
