Is Ibuprofen Safe for Long Term Use?

Read Transcript

Ibuprofen is not safe for continuous daily long term use. Sometimes people with chronic conditions like arthritis or a sore back can use Ibuprofen for a long period of time, but they have to have periods in between where they break it up or use something different. The real danger with any of these drugs is taking it continuously and subjecting the liver or the kidneys to this continuous amount of drug.

If you take Ibuprofen for a long period of time it can sometimes cause high blood pressure from the kidney damage and then that in turn can cause you to be more likely to develop heart disease, high blood pressure factors into that. So with a combination of high blood pressure and blood clots which can also be caused by Ibuprofen, you're actually more likely to develop problems in those small blood vessels that carry blood to the heart.
