The biggest myth that I normally encounter with patients in my practice is that they believe that hearing loss is an old age phenomenon, and that couldn't be further from the truth. There're about 36 million people in this country who have hearing loss currently and that number is growing.

65% of them are under the age of 65. We also see patients in practice that might be in their 80s or 90s and they have almost completely normal hearing. On the other end of this spetrum, we have might be new-borns who have severe or profound hearing loss. So hearing loss as a result of age, hearing does deteriorated as time goes forward but there is not a one to one relationship between age and the degree of hearing loss that we have.
