Unlike mosquito bites that itch right away, tick bites can go undetected - but tick bites associated with Lyme disease tend to have a bulls-eye target rash. Watch as allergist Clifford Bassett, MD, shares some important information on tick bites.
Tick bites may be painless, they may go undetected, they're so small, you may never realize you have one, however, if you see that bull's eye target rash. That's characteristic for Lyme disease, 70 to 85% of individuals who get Lyme disease have the bull's eye rash. It 's important to realize that if you don't have the rash you could still get Lyme disease.
A standard tick bite might look like a bite, a redness, an area of swelling, it may not be characteristic, and it won't really do anything initially. Mosquito bites, it's right away has the big difference.
