How Does My Metabolism Influence Weight Loss?

Read Transcript

Metabolism influences weight loss because metabolism is the amount of energy that our body burns everyday. We all have a set number of calories that our body wants to burn and ultimately we can break that word metabolism into three main categories. The first category is going to be the stomach effective feeding, and so starting by eating food and all the metabolic processes that occur with digestion that burns about 10 to 15% of the calories that our body burns everyday.

Now that we are going to talk about the thermic effect of physical activity so the moment that I get up out of bed and muscle contraction begins, and I stand up and my gluts, and my hand respire then I start walking, while now my muscles are in motion, and muscle in motion counts for about 20% to 35% of the calories you burn everyday, and then the of course there's resting metabolic rate and the rest of the metabolic rate is going to be a heart beat, it's going to be breathing and of course just the amount of energy that all of our tissues need all day, everyday, and resting metabolic rate, that can account for between 60-75% of the calories we burn.

So ultimately when we understand that metabolism and where that number is for us, well then we can begin to control weight loss, because what is weight loss? It's when we take in fewer calories than we're burning. So it's when we're taking in fewer calories than our metabolism is burning, that's weight loss in a nut shell.

So that's why it's so important for us to understand metabolism, how we can change it, how we can get that number as high as we possibly can so that when we can create that calorie deficit we can maximize weight loss.
