When Does Anxiety Typically Develop in a Child?

Anxiety can develop any time. Anxiety can develop as young as three and four years old. If you look at the studies you'll go back to about age three or four, all the way up through adolescents with anxiety disorders. Now there might be some anxieties that come up in certain developmental stages of a child's life, so for example selective mutism, which is sort of a form of social anxiety, can present itself as young as sort of preschool to kindergarten.
