5 Steps to Communicate Better with Your Partner

Hi, I'm Dr. Oz, and here are four steps to improve communication with your partner. These strategies can help all of us, but they're especially helpful for people with ADHD who can have trouble listening carefully and communicating clearly. One simple fix is to eliminate distraction turn off the TV, your computer, and your cellphone during a conversation.

Give your partner your undivided attention. Make eye contact, look directly into your partner's eyes this helps your partner feel valued and it'll help you absorb what your partner is saying. Ask for clarification, if your mind wonders, don't try to cover it up let your partner know that you got distracted.

Ask him or her to repeat what was just said because you want to absorb all the information. Take a timeout. Delete all your overwhelmed or angry, ask your partner for time to get collected. You can always pick up the discussion later. If your communications problems continue, consider professional counselling.
