Are Heart Stress Tests Different for Women than Men?

Read Transcript

In women, summer time stress tests are less accurate, because estrogen can actually lead to changes in the EKG. Traditionally, if a woman is still in their menstruating years or shortly there after, we recommend that a woman gets not only the walking-on-the-treadmill portion of the stress test, but also imaging with an echo-cardiogram or ultrasound of the heart or an injection of a nuclear tracer that then is put under camera to look more directly for blocked arteries.
