Hi, I'm Dr. Miller. When you want to quite smoking it's a smart idea to set at a quit date that you can prepare for. One of the best things you can do in those weeks leading up to your official first day as an ex-smoker is to start changing your smoking habit. For example try not lighting up in two or three situations that usually trigger your desire to smoke, cut back to one pack or less a day and carry that pack in a different place than usual, and switch brands to one you don't like as much.

Also change your routine, if you always have a cigarette with your morning coffee, try exercising first thing in the morning instead. Or if you take breaks during the day to step outside for a quick smoke, take a walk around the block instead, get rid of your lighters and matches too.

If it's inconvenient to light up, you maybe inclined to skip a few cigarettes and as you cut back, start developing healthy new habits from a place smoking. If stress make you smoke try yoga or meditation to tame anxiety. I'm Dr. Miller, for more ways to live smoke free, watch all our smart tips.
