All patients regardless of high or low their blood pressure is, if they are being considered for treatment for their blood pressure, should look at lifestyle modifications first. So, we always talk to our patients about that, before using any drugs, or sometimes at the same time. So, top on list would be salt.

Now, not everyone is responsive to salt, but we feel that most people are. And it's pretty good estimate to say that reduction in salt would be helpful for most people. Another thing is to maintain an adequate body weight, because you know that overweight can contribute to high blood pressure. Other factors that can help lower blood pressure are adequate exercise and overall a heart healthy diet.

When those measures are not enough to bring a patient to goal, we often use medications.
