Hi, I'm Dr. Daria [xx], did you know that the same diet that's good for your blood pressure is good for your brain too? It turns out the dietary approaches to stop hypertension popularly known as DASH may slow cognitive decline in people over 65. DASH is the healthy way to eat even if you don't have higher blood pressure.

It's been shown to help prevent diabetes, lower cholesterol and reduce inflammation. All of which help prevent Alzheimer's too. What's on the daily DASH menu? Six servings of whole grain that include whole wheat, oats, barley and brown rice to name a few, at least three servings of vegetables and four servings of fruit.

Remember, more is better. 2 - 3 servings fat free or low fat dairy, 3 - 6 servings of lean poultry, fish or meat, three servings of nuts, seeds or beans and two servings of healthy mono unsaturated fats, such as olive or canola oil. What's so special about DASH? It's loaded with potassium magnesium and calcium, all good for your blood pressure and your brain.
