Can Reducing Stress Help Improve My Blood Pressure and Cholesterol?

The link between reducing stress and reducing cholesterol and hypertension is unclear. Certainly we know that when a patient feels stressed, their blood pressure often goes up, not in everybody, but many people. For example we have a 24 hour blood pressure monitor and we ask patients to wear it for 24 hours and record how they feel, so if a patient say I was stuck in traffic and an hour late getting home, we often see that their blood pressure has gone up so clearly there is an association between stress and high blood pressure.

How it can indirectly affect patients, is that if they're stressed they may be rushing, around not paying attention to their health, not taking their medication, and not observing other heart healthy lifestyle habits
