Triglycerides are a form of fat and when the numbers hit too high I can be a risk factor for cardiovascular disease. We measure triglycerides when people are fasting meaning they haven't had any food for about 12 hours, though guideline suggest that the levels should be under 150 milligrams per deciliter however, we're still not sure if it's more important to measure them after you've eaten in other words in a non fasting state, but right now our guidelines do suggest for everybody that the goal is less than 150.
