The estimates range from about $40,000- $70,000 per year per patient. So if you look at the number of Alzheimer's patients in the United States today which is around 5 million, multiply it by 40,000, let's take the lower end estimate, that's $200 billion a year your spending on treating Alzheimer's. By 2050, when there are 25 million Alzheimers patients in the United States, every dollar we spend on medicare will need to be spent on Alzheimer's, and there won't be a dime left over for any another disease.
