Where Are You Seeing Social Media Having an Impact on Global Health?

I'm seeing it having an effect, global social media on vaccines, right now watched in state, there are places in Washington state that have the same poor coverage as northern Nigeria, where 30% of people are opting out.  Similarly you have vaccines that have an incredible amount of hesitancy people in the United States not even wanting to give their children the whole immunization schedule because they've had of some pieces not evidence based whether its Samara's home, links with autism or other pieces.

I also see the fact we think we can have an HIV vaccine in 5 years or 10 years, but if people aren't willing to take vaccines it doesn't matter how great that vaccine is. So I think that their is a definite negative effect on social media there. Secondly though, I think their is a positive effect of social media of connecting in some cases mothers to mothers, there's  a project actually called that which connects HIV positive as your mother with former HIV positive mothers or let's say mothers who are HIV positive now ones who are help them led through and what to do and I think we will eventually see and hopefully if the UN targets are correct, elimination of mother to child transmission of HIV.

And some of that is through one is a population that we can reach to give them the information three give them the medicine, so that's a positive example. Another example that we've tried here in the United States and it's going global is called test tube baby, are giving women during their pregnancy information on their mobile phones in this case as text messages that tell them what to do whether it's to get pre-natal visits, whether it's to take elements and also the emotional components reminding the leaving of car seats and so forth.

So there's lots of different things of how you can use that social media simple, I think text for babies is pretty simple it's text to some very targeted stuff that we're trying a mobile alliance for maternal action that we call Mama which is with the USAID, US Government, Johnson and Johnson, and Bangladesh, and India, South Africa where people are getting messages they listen to but they can't read, but the phones are again an opportunity to reach people at different leadership levels, different cultural levels, and different language.
