Are We Moving to a Preventive Health Healthcare System?

Those of us in public health have always had that perspective, that it's better and cheaper to prevent disease than to treat it, and that's true for any pretty much any disease. The challenge has been found at least in our system, finding ways to pay for the services and we prioritize our system pays for treatment much more easily than it does prevention.

I think that needs to change, I mean especially in this situation where the economy is stressing the cost of care and our ability to continue what we're doing. So I think maybe that's the tipping point. Maybe that this is the time where we need to be thinking about putting more emphasis on preventative care, paying for it and supporting those services as a long term solution to reducing the cost of care at least leveling the trajectory of.
