Anytime we put the pieces together things work better, says HealthMaker Philip Hagen, MD. In this video he explains if you want good outcomes you have to have people paying attention to the person as a whole especially as we age.
Well I think any time that you're putting the pieces together, things work better and it's certainly is true especially the longer we live, the more of us have multiple medical condition going on at the same time. So if I go in, have a heart surgery done and I'm a diabetic requiring insulin and maybe I've got hypertension and I'm on ten medicines, all of a sudden, that surgery become about more than just heart surgery.
And so you really do need to have people if you want good outcomes, you need to have someone paying attention to the [xx] pressure and to the diabetes while the heart surgeon is focusing on the heart.
Philip Hagen, MD, is medical director of Mayo Clinic EmbodyHealth. He says improving engagement and motivation are the keys help patients to embrace wellness and make lasting healthy lifestyle changes.
