How Is Sensor Technology Changing Healthcare?

The reason I love sensor technology not just implantable sets of technology that I deal within in my specialty but any sensor technology. I have been focusing a lot on recording heart rate and things to do with the cardiovascular system. But one of the great things about it is, if you have a wearable sensor that's sort of ubiquitous that a kid can put on as a tattoo or anyone can grab an iPhone and get their EKG.

Certainly heart rate and EKG permeate gaming and sports, if you're looking at Tom Brady's EKG during a football game on your own and having some immersive entertainment experience. Suddenly then everyone is becoming a better patient and everyone is learning and becoming literate in this way that's really interesting right? But you don't have to just in that instance in those examples I gave you, you can monetize the sport, you can monetize the gaming, you don't have to squeeze all the money out of the health but the health is just a tag-along.

So what if everybody who was playing fantasy baseball or fantasy football in some way or another, following sports remotely, also had data on bio metrics. We would have bio metric data on scores of athletes and fans across all age ranges, they could input other data into this free source, they'd pay a little bit more to compare their heart rate to somebody else.

Peyton Manning or whoever you want it to do, but what do you have in the background of that? You have this enormous repository of health data that you can then make big observations in, really pretty cool. And also pick up stuff, pickup things that happen that go wrong before a catastrophic event.

So I sort of envision this world where people are wearing censors in their teeth because the sensors are emerging out there, body tattoos, maybe some subcutaneous sensors but not necessarily maybe monitoring brain function during athletic, during contact sports. Talk about really wanting to know how serious was that injury in your child or wherever who was playing contact sports, you could really drill down on some of those things across large populations of patients.

It doesn't take long when you start to collect the data then you analyze it then you collect the clinical events and before long you've got millions and millions of people, and then maybe things don't happen like this horrible events on soccer fields and other things that inspite of screening we hear about, right?..
