Telemedicine is still very new, so some patients are hesitant to give it a try. In this video, Karen Rheuban, MD, director of UVA's Center for Telehealth, describes why and how people are choosing telemedicine instead of in-person appointments.
I think there're certainly are some patients who would prefer to have in person visits, sometimes we offer those patients the opportunity to get follow up via Telemedicine and once they've actually been in the same physical room with their provider, they have been willing to try Telemedicine and follow up.
And the same it's true for some of our clinicians as well, who might, the first visit want to see the patient face to face in the room, I actually really enjoy, I have a colleague from the University of Vermont who had a great, expression he's a Child Psychiatrist and [xx] and says, think inside the box, meaning the Telemedicine System.
Karen Rheuban, MD, is professor of pediatrics and medical director of the University of Virginia Office of Telemedicine. She explains how telemedicine, also called telehealth, benefits healthcare providers and patients.
