Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) is primarily diagnosed by symptom reporting. In this video, HealthMaker Jerry Bubrick, PhD, with the Child Mind Institute, explains that diagnosis requires diligent data collection on the patient.
It's primarily diagnosed by symptom report, by parent's reports, by children's reports, right now we don't have any kind of bio-markers and there's no genetic tests, tested to show a diagnosis, so it's done primarily by symptom report. Also we get information from schools, from pediatricians from siblings we get as much information as we possibly can about the child we're working with, and the more collective data we get conclusive data we're sure we can show that diagnosis is appropriate.
Jerry Bubrick, PhD is a widely known cognitive behavioral psychologist, focused on the treatment of OCD. He is a leader in cognitive behavioral therapy treatment of children and teens with OCD and other anxiety disorders.
