How Is the Doctor/Patient Relationship Changing?

I would say at one point, doctors were very personal. They were very directive, it seemed like the doctor was the fountain of all intimation, the patient came got the information, and they may or might not respond to it. I think the value of computers and information related to technology is terrific.

It has all kinds of value, but you are absolutely right. The doctor is put under a certain pressure, and that is finally do they have computers as you said and they're talking to the patient at the same time, and doctors will have to learn how to blend that. Learn the computers well enough so that the patients feel they have a relationship, and also those who pay for healthcare have to value those conversations, because you don't just go in there ask the doctor 15 questions, get the answers and walk out.

If you have confidence and trust in that doctor, the likelihood that you will comply is much increased, and you should comply, but also ask questions. It just should not be a one way street. So you challenge the directions you get because you walk out of there with a mutually agreed upon therapeutic plan, that to me is optimal.

So, it's going to take some work on the part of the providers, it's also going to take some work on the part of the payers, and incidentally I'd say also, patients have to realize their role in this, and that the better they do, the healthier they will be.
