What's the State of our Healthcare System Today?

We, I think, take good care of patients who have appropriate health care coverage, but we do so very inefficiently. Any graph that you've ever seen which shows that the dollars we spend per person on health care is way out of line with other civilized countries because we do not actually have a good handle on how we spend our medical resources.

Everybody I think has arrived at the point of realizing we can't continue that trajectory. So our healthcare I think is high quality, but it's certainly not high efficiency, and when you consider the way in which our healthcare costs are growing as a function of GDP now 18%, we can't stay on that trajectory.

We have to figure out how to be more efficient without sacrificing quality. We need good outcomes, but we also need to think about how to achieve that in a way that we can afford.
