The Affordable Care Act is very similar to several proposals dating back to the late 1940s, says HealthMaker and bioethicist Ezekiel Emanuel, MD, PhD. In this video, he explains why this isn't such a new idea after all.
The Affordable Care Act is very similar to a lot of Republican proposals going all the way back to the late 40s. Richard Nixon had this proposal where he wanted to give American subsidies based upon their income so that they could buy private insurance from competing plans, which by the way, he required to be not for profit.
This is a Republican, mainstream Republican, that's very similar to the Affordable Care Act.
