Preventing disease is simply not reimbursed to the level that treating or reversing disease is, which doesn't incentivize doctors to emphasize wellness. HealthMaker Deborah German, MD, discusses the issue in this video.
All of the reimbursement for medical care is to reverse disease. And as far as I know there's almost no reimbursement for prevention, and decisions need to be involved in both, because even if someone comes to you with the disease you have to prevent the continued decline. So, prevention has to be integrated into everything we do.
