In mental health, practitioners don't use technology enough, says HealthMaker Daniel Amen, MD, psychiatrist and brain imaging expert. But he says doctors need to be both high tech and high touch to heal patients.
So given I'm a technology guy, I mean we use sophisticated imaging study at least in mental health, I don't think we use it nearly enough but I think we want to be high tech and high touch because if it's just high tech, you don't make that connection and connections are healing.
We always talk about the four circles to get to understand someone, you have to understand their biology, so you need some technology there, you have to understand their psychology, less technology, their social circle and their sense of spirituality and if you don't deal with all four circles, you tend not really to get people well.
Psychiatrist Daniel G. Amen, MD, is a brain imaging expert and the founder of Amen Clinics. He explains how 3D brain imaging is an important tool to help understand, diagnose and treat mental illness, behavior problems and brain injuries.
