Today, most patients wait until they're sick to see a doctor, rather than taking preventative steps for long-term wellness. HealthMaker Brad Perkins, MD, a Vanguard executive, discusses the reasons this is a poor approach in this video.
The variation on why people do things in their lives past their destructive things is enormous. It cannot be reduced to one year assembly line thinking. So we need to look for hollistic strategies that allow us to build a system that prevents disease rather than wait for it to occur and then attempts to apply reductionistic science at that point.
Brad Perkins, MD, is chief transformation officer for Vanguard Health Systems. Vanguard Health Systems owns and operates 28 acute care and specialty hospitals and complementary facilities and services across the country.
