Faces of addiction: Tim's story
Tim began experimenting with drugs in college and didn't stop until his parents pushed him to finally get the help he needed. He lived in denial of his addiction, until his stint in rehab showed him that a drug-free life was a life worth living.

I found myself consistently preferring to buy drugs rather than pay things like my rent
or insurance or gas in my car. I was going to use no matter what. I was just determined.
[MUSIC PLAYING] I started using drugs when I was 20, in college.
Started with alcohol and then, six months after that, it was marijuana. Six months after that it was MDMA.
And then it was just sort of off and running. Using had become such a part of my lifestyle, it was so ingrained in my person, that I was going to,
I was going to get tanked no matter what. I was just going to use no matter what. Even when I didn't want to.
There was one moment where I really felt like I was hitting a bottom, which was when my parents forced me into treatment.
I'd been living with them for about six months, and they would come home and find me completely tanked.
They basically said, you need to go get some help or you're out. I had been in denial about my problem for years.
I'd known in the back of my mind it was a problem. But this is where, that's where it felt real.
