Hi, I'm Dr. Oz. We all can benefit from the power of touch, whether the skin is massaged tenderly, or a trigger point is pressed to release a knotted muscle. Touch arouses are network of neurochemicals and hormones that lower blood pressure, blocked pain, increase happiness, even fight the flow, so how does it happen?
Massaging the skin activates nerves that calm down the body's stress response, and stimulates the brain's happy hormones. Touch also stimulates production of the hug hormone, oxytocin, bathing the body, and feel good sensations. Research shows that couples who hold hands, massage each other, and cuddle for at least 30 minutes, at least 4 times a week, flood their bodies with anti-stress hormones.
