Research suggests that people who turn in a little earlier eat an average of 248 pure calories per day compared to night hours. In fact night hours tend to be heavier than early to bed folks and they gabble down more calories later at night.

They also eat twice as much junk food and half as many fruits and vegetables. So how does staying up late make you gain weight? It messes with your body's circadian rhythm, staying up later, eating more at night and sleeping more during the day boost weight gain by altering your appetite your eating patterns and your metabolism. Saving 248 calories a day by going to bed a little bit earlier may not seem like a lot, but it can save you about two pounds a month.
